NAIROBI, Kenya—The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered more than KSh65 million in cash from the residence of a senior Nairobi County official, deepening investigations into an alleged corruption network operating within the county government.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the anti-graft agency said investigators seized approximately KSh65.3 million during a search at the Syokimau residence of Nairobi County Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, Patrick Analo Akivaga.

According to EACC, the operation forms part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption, bribery, abuse of office and acquisition of unexplained wealth involving county officials.

Detectives reportedly discovered KSh51.3 million in local currency and an additional USD130,000, estimated at about KSh14.6 million, concealed in the boot of a vehicle parked within the compound.

The commission said preliminary findings indicate that Akivaga has allegedly been receiving substantial amounts of money through cash transactions and M-Pesa transfers, raising concerns about the source of the funds.

“Investigations are focused on allegations of corruption, bribery, abuse of office and acquisition of unexplained wealth,” EACC said.

The commission further noted that some assets associated with the county official appear disproportionate to his known and legitimate sources of income, prompting a broader inquiry into his financial dealings.

During the raid, investigators also confiscated a range of documents and electronic devices believed to be relevant to the probe. Among the items seized were title deeds, motor vehicle logbooks, laptops, land sale agreements, vehicle sale agreements and development approval plans linked to Nairobi County.

EACC said the recovered documents and electronic evidence will undergo forensic analysis as investigators seek to establish the source of the cash and determine whether any public funds were unlawfully acquired or diverted.

The commission is also examining financial records and other evidence collected during the operation as it works to uncover the extent of the suspected corruption scheme and identify any other individuals who may have been involved.

No charges have been filed against the county official at this stage, with EACC emphasizing that investigations remain active. The agency said appropriate legal action will be taken once inquiries are completed and all evidence has been reviewed.

The latest development comes as the anti-graft agency intensifies its crackdown on unexplained wealth and corruption within public institutions, amid growing public concern over accountability in the management of taxpayer resources.
