Nairobi, Kenya- African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretary-General Wamkele Mene will headline the Project Management Institute (PMI) Global Summit Series in Cape Town next month.

The two-day summit, scheduled for September 14-15 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, will bring together government officials, business leaders, development financiers and professionals in technology, energy and infrastructure.

The meeting, organised by PMI Sub-Saharan Africa, will be held under the theme “Africa Delivers M.O.R.E. Together”, focusing on how the continent can translate ambitious development plans into tangible results.

Mene’s participation is expected to add weight to discussions on Africa’s economic integration, particularly the implementation of AfCFTA and efforts to create a more connected continental market.

Speakers will include Eskom chair Mteto Nyathi, Flutterwave founder and chief executive Olugbenga Agboola and Zutari head of projects Willem Botha.

Artificial intelligence will also feature prominently, with Cassava Technologies South Africa and Botswana chief executive Ziaad Suleman expected to lead discussions on building Africa’s capacity to develop and deploy AI technologies.

PMI Sub-Saharan Africa managing director George Asamani said Africa had no shortage of ambition but needed stronger delivery capabilities to turn plans into results.

“Africa is not short of ambition. What matters now is delivery,” Mr Asamani said.
The summit will also examine the role of project management offices (PMOs) in improving government performance.

Kenya Government Delivery Unit acting head Sitati Olando will join officials from Uganda, South Africa and the City of Cape Town to discuss strengthening delivery systems within public institutions.

The discussions come as African governments face growing pressure to ensure policies, budgets and development programmes translate into measurable improvements in citizens’ lives.

The Cape Town summit builds on last year’s gathering in Kigali, which attracted more than 1,000 project professionals, government officials and industry leaders.
