A fierce political battle is unfolding in Emurua Dikirr Constituency as rival camps allied to President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP intensify campaigns ahead of the crucial by-election. With tensions rising and national leaders flocking to Narok, the contest is increasingly being viewed as an early political test ahead of the 2027 General Election.

EMURUA DIKIRR, Narok County—May 10, 2026—Political temperatures have hit boiling point ahead of the highly anticipated Emurua Dikirr Constituency parliamentary by-election, with fierce campaigns by rival camps turning the mini poll into a major political showdown between President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s DCP outfit.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that polling stations will open at 6.00am and close at 5.00pm, on Thursday May, 14, 2026, with officials assuring voters that any time lost during delayed opening will be recovered during closing hours. Voters who will be on the queue by 5.00pm will also be allowed to cast their ballots.

Besides the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary race, by-elections will also be conducted in Porro and Endo Wards.

However, it is the Emurua Dikirr contest that has captured national political attention, with senior leaders from both UDA and DCP camping in Narok to drum up support for their candidates in what is increasingly being viewed as an early political test ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The campaigns have been marked by aggressive rallies, sharp political attacks and intense mobilisation efforts as both camps seek to prove dominance in the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

UDA leaders have framed the by-election as a referendum on President Ruto’s development agenda and the stability of the Kenya Kwanza administration, urging residents to remain loyal to the ruling party.

The party’s campaign machinery has heavily invested in grassroots mobilisation, with senior government allies traversing the constituency in a bid to lock out the opposition challenge.

On the other hand, DCP leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have portrayed the contest as an opportunity for voters to send a strong political message to the Kenya Kwanza administration over what they term betrayal, exclusion and failed promises.

The heated campaigns have also exposed widening political cracks within Kenya Kwanza, especially after the fallout between President Ruto and Gachagua triggered fresh political realignments across several regions.

Political analysts now argue that a victory for DCP in Emurua Dikirr would significantly boost Gachagua’s influence nationally and strengthen attempts to position the movement as a formidable force ahead of 2027. On the other hand, a UDA win would hand President Ruto’s camp a major political advantage and reinforce the ruling party’s grip in the Rift Valley.

Security agencies have meanwhile heightened surveillance across the constituency amid concerns over rising political tensions during the final stretch of campaigns.

Residents are expected to turn out in large numbers for the vote, with the outcome likely to shape the country’s shifting political landscape far beyond Narok County.
