Mombasa County is set to join the rest of the country in celebrating the 63rd Madaraka Day on Monday, with local festivities scheduled to take place at Bilima Grounds in Kisauni Constituency.

County Commissioner Mohamed Nur Hassan said preparations for the event have been finalized, with residents expected to gather from as early as 8:00 a.m. to participate in the national celebrations.

The event will be attended by Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, senior government officials, and other county leaders.

According to the County Commissioner, a key highlight of the celebrations will be the reading of President William Ruto’s Madaraka Day address at noon, in line with nationwide commemorations being led from Wajir County.

“We encourage residents to arrive early and take part in the celebrations. The President’s speech will be read at midday as we join the rest of the nation in marking this important day,” Nur said.

He also assured residents that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee the safety of participants throughout the event.

“We have enhanced security across Mombasa and neighboring areas to ensure the celebrations are conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner. We invite all residents to come out and celebrate responsibly,” he added.

This year’s national Madaraka Day celebrations will be led by President William Ruto in Wajir County.

Observed every June 1, Madaraka Day marks Kenya’s attainment of internal self-governance in 1963 and is one of the country’s most important national holidays.
