MOMBASA, Kenya – Small businesses and households in Mombasa are set to benefit from a financial literacy and advisory programme as concerns over the rising cost of living, debt and unstable incomes continue to weigh on many Kenyan families.

Financial services firm Old Mutual has brought its nationwide Financial Wellness Drive to the Coast region, offering entrepreneurs, individuals and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) practical financial education, investment guidance, savings advice and risk management solutions.

The week-long programme, which follows similar engagements in Thika and Nakuru, includes market activations, customer visits, stakeholder engagements and a public forum that will bring together business leaders, financial experts and customers to discuss strategies for building long-term financial resilience.

The initiative comes at a time when many businesses are grappling with high operating costs and reduced consumer spending, while households continue to face pressure from rising living expenses and unpredictable income streams.

According to findings from the Old Mutual Financial Wellness Monitor, many Kenyans remain optimistic about their financial future despite increasing financial challenges. The company says the outreach programme seeks to translate those findings into practical financial guidance through community-based engagements.

As part of the Mombasa activities, Old Mutual also participated in the Bancassurance Association of Kenya (BAK) Conference, where Managing Director of the Digital Business Unit, Dr. Isaac Nzyoka, highlighted the role of digital innovation in expanding access to financial services through the company’s Thrive Connect platform.

The Mombasa campaign forms part of Old Mutual’s broader national programme aimed at promoting financial inclusion, encouraging a culture of saving and investing, and strengthening the financial resilience of Kenyan households and businesses.
