NAIROBI, Kenya—The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has concluded a two-day Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) sensitisation programme for General Service Unit (GSU) recruits at the National Police College, Embakasi ‘B’ Campus.

The training, conducted by facilitators from the Directorate of CVE, aimed at strengthening the recruits’ understanding of emerging terrorism and violent extremism threats, radicalisation processes, and modern extremist tactics increasingly fueled by technological advancements and online influence.

According to the DCI, the programme equipped recruits with practical knowledge and skills to help them identify, prevent and respond to violent extremism and terrorism-related threats while safeguarding communities from radicalisation and recruitment into extremist networks.

Key areas covered during the sensitisation included radicalisation pathways and recruitment trends, protective security awareness, identification of suspicious persons and activities, as well as evolving violent extremist threats facing Kenya.

Participants were also taken through Kenya’s legal and policy frameworks on countering violent extremism and the role of the National Police Service in combating radicalisation and terrorism.

The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts by the Directorate to strengthen the preparedness and operational effectiveness of security officers in addressing emerging security challenges across the country.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing national security through continuous capacity building, intelligence-led policing, multi-agency collaboration and community-centred approaches aimed at preventing radicalisation, disrupting extremist networks and protecting Kenyans from terrorism and violent extremism.
