NAIROBI, Kenya—Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested a 33-year-old man linked to viral inflammatory utterances circulating on social media, which authorities say posed a threat to public cohesion and national stability.

The suspect, identified as Evans Onyango Kawala, also known as Kidero Jasuba, was arrested at the Shujaa Mall area in Kayole, Nairobi, during a coordinated operation conducted by detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU).

According to the DCI, the suspect is currently in custody undergoing processing ahead of his arraignment in court.

In a statement, the agency warned the public against making inflammatory public remarks or sharing content that could incite violence, spread hatred, or undermine peace and national unity.

“The DCI cautions the public against making public utterances or disseminating content that incites violence, spreads hatred, or undermines peace and national unity,” the agency said.

The Directorate further noted that individuals found culpable of such offences would face firm legal action in accordance with the law.

The arrest comes amid heightened scrutiny by security agencies over online content considered inflammatory or capable of fueling tensions within the country.
