NAIROBI, Kenya—Fuel prices across Kenya will remain unchanged for the next month, but motorists in northern and remote parts of the country will continue paying significantly more than those in Mombasa.

The latest prices announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) take effect from September 15 to October 15, with Mombasa retaining the lowest prices for petrol, diesel and kerosene.

In Mombasa, Super Petrol will retail at Sh210.87 per litre, while diesel will cost Sh214.58 and kerosene Sh188.09.

At the opposite end, motorists in Mandera will pay the highest prices, with Super Petrol retailing at Sh234.68 per litre, diesel at Sh240.04 and kerosene at Sh213.56.

The regional difference means a motorist in Mandera will pay Sh23.81 more per litre for petrol and Sh25.46 more for diesel compared with a motorist buying the same products in Mombasa.

In Nairobi, Super Petrol will retail at a maximum of Sh214.03 per litre, while diesel will cost Sh217.86 and kerosene Sh191.38.

EPRA attributed the variation in prices across the country largely to the cost of transporting petroleum products from the point of importation to different parts of the country.

The price disparity is particularly significant for businesses and households in remote counties, where higher fuel costs can add to the cost of transportation and the movement of goods and services.

For motorists, however, the latest EPRA schedule provides some stability, with pump prices remaining unchanged for the coming month despite the substantial differences between regions.

Mombasa’s position as the cheapest fuel market also reflects its importance as Kenya’s main petroleum importation and distribution point, while consumers in distant counties continue to bear additional transportation costs.

The new prices will remain in effect until October 15, when EPRA is expected to issue the next monthly fuel price schedule.
