Achani pledges reliable medicine supplies in Kwale public facilities

KWALE, County—Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has pledged to strengthen the supply of essential medicines in public hospitals and dispensaries across the county, saying residents should not be turned away from health facilities because of drug shortages.

Speaking to residents in Mnyenzeni, Kinango Constituency, Achani said her administration had allocated resources towards ensuring public health facilities have adequate medicines to meet patients’ needs.

“We have made deliberate efforts to ensure that our hospitals and dispensaries have enough medicines. We have put aside sufficient funds to make sure our health facilities are well supplied,” Achani said.

The governor said access to medicines remained a critical part of healthcare delivery and that residents should be able to seek treatment at public facilities with confidence that essential drugs would be available.

“Our people should be able to visit a public health facility and receive the services they need without being told that there are no medicines,” she said.

Achani said the county government would continue investing in the health sector, including directing resources towards areas where residents face challenges accessing essential services.

She said the administration’s focus was to improve the quality and affordability of healthcare while ensuring residents in different parts of Kwale benefit from public health programmes.

The assurance comes as access to essential medicines remains an important component of effective public healthcare, particularly for residents who depend on county hospitals and dispensaries for affordable treatment.

Achani also used the meeting to criticise her political opponents, accusing them of what she described as “petty politics” instead of focusing on issues affecting residents.

“We should not engage in petty politics every day while ignoring the work that is being done to improve the lives of our people,” she said.

She challenged her critics to focus on development and said her administration should be judged by the services it delivers to residents.

“Let us focus on development and on the issues that affect our people. Our priority is to improve services and ensure that residents benefit from the resources available to the county,” Achani said.

The governor urged residents to support programmes aimed at strengthening healthcare services, saying the county would continue allocating resources to key sectors and improving access to essential public services.
