MOMBASA, Kenya—Nyali parliamentary aspirant Said Abdalla, popularly known as Saido, has intensified his grassroots outreach in Kongowea Ward, combining support for small-scale traders with a voter registration drive ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Saido led hundreds of supporters in a door-to-door campaign across the expansive ward, where he distributed umbrellas to traders and issued several cheques intended to boost small businesses facing mounting operating costs.

The initiative comes amid renewed pressure on households and businesses following a rise in fuel prices linked to instability in the Middle East. Higher fuel costs can feed into transport and distribution expenses, putting additional pressure on traders whose profit margins are already constrained by the cost of doing business.

Kenya’s Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) raised maximum retail fuel prices for the October 15 to November 14, 2026, period. In Mombasa, the maximum price of super petrol rose to KSh223.81 per litre, while diesel was set at KSh224.71 per litre, according to the regulator’s published price index.

During the outreach, Saido urged eligible residents to register as voters and participate in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 polls.

He also criticised politicians he accused of returning to communities only during election periods, urging residents to scrutinise leaders’ records and commitments rather than be swayed by campaign promises.

Saido warned against political mobilisation along tribal, religious and class lines, arguing that such divisions distract from the issues affecting residents’ livelihoods and local development.

The Kongowea initiative forms part of his efforts to build grassroots support as political activity gathers pace ahead of the next General Election.
