MOMBASA, Kenya—Nyali parliamentary aspirant Said Abdallah, popularly known as Saido, has urged the Mombasa County Government to fast-track the establishment of a fire station in the constituency following a series of fire incidents that have destroyed homes and businesses.

Abdallah said the growing number of fire outbreaks in Nyali had exposed the need for stronger emergency response infrastructure, warning that residents and business owners remained vulnerable to losses whenever disasters struck.

Speaking in Kadzandani Ward following a fire incident, where he also extended support to affected families, the aspirant cited recent outbreaks in Kambi Kikuyu in Kongowea Ward and Kadzandani as examples of the growing concern over fire safety in the constituency.

He called on the county administration to prioritise the establishment of a dedicated fire station in Nyali, saying a facility within the constituency would improve emergency response and help contain fires before they spread to neighbouring properties.

“Over the past few months, we have witnessed a surge in fire incidents that have devastated families and businesses, from Kambi Kikuyu in Kongowea Ward to Kadzandani Ward,” he said.

Abdallah argued that Nyali’s rapid urbanisation and growing population made the provision of emergency services increasingly urgent.

He pointed to the ongoing VOK Affordable Housing Project, which is expected to add thousands of residents to the constituency once completed, further increasing demand for public services and emergency preparedness.

The VOK development is expected to comprise 1,938 housing units, with the government targeting completion and handover by March 2027, according to a recent report by the Kenya News Agency.

The aspirant said the growing residential population, coupled with the expansion of commercial and residential developments, required the county government to strengthen its disaster preparedness measures.

“The need for a fire station in Nyali has become increasingly urgent. Establishing one will strengthen emergency preparedness, facilitate timely responses to fire outbreaks and help avert future tragedies and loss of property,” he said.

His appeal comes as Mombasa County continues to grapple with the challenge of providing adequate firefighting and rescue services across its six sub-counties.

In its 2026/2027 Annual Development Plan, the county has listed the construction of a fire station in Nyali among its planned development projects, with an indicative allocation of KSh50 million.

The plan identifies the intended output as a fire station constructed and operational during the financial year, placing the proposed facility within the county’s development priorities.

The county’s development programme also lists proposed fire stations in Kongowea and Jomvu, reflecting the wider need to expand firefighting infrastructure beyond the existing facilities.

The proposed Nyali station is particularly significant as the constituency experiences continued urban expansion, with increasing residential developments and commercial activity placing greater demands on public safety services.

Abdallah’s intervention has therefore brought renewed attention to the need for the county to translate its development plans into operational emergency facilities capable of protecting lives, homes and businesses.

As Nyali continues to expand, residents will be looking to the county government to provide the infrastructure and emergency services required to match the area’s growing population.
