NAIROBI, Kenya—Super Metro has denied claims that its buses were used to ferry political goons to Kirinyaga to disrupt meetings addressed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The transport company said the buses seen in the area were carrying secondary school students travelling to Kathandeni Forest in Gichugu Constituency for a hike organised by AIC Church Ziwani Nairobi.
Super Metro said the passengers were school-going boys and girls with no connection to political activities, dismissing allegations that the buses had been hired to transport people to cause chaos at Gachagua’s meetings.
The clarification followed claims by Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, who accused the company of transporting individuals she described as political goons to the region.
“Super Metro!!! I see you have transported Kasongo’s goons to Kirinyaga to wreak havoc at Riggy G’s meetings,” Maina said.
Maina further warned that those involved in what she described as the mobilisation of the group would be held legally responsible for any violence arising from the meetings.
“We shall hold you legally culpable for aiding and abetting any violence that happens at any of the meetings today,” she added.
Super Metro, however, disputed the allegations, maintaining that the people aboard its buses were students travelling for a school-related outdoor activity.
The controversy comes amid heightened political activity in the Mt Kenya region, where Gachagua has been holding meetings as he seeks to strengthen his political base ahead of the 2027 General Election.
With political temperatures rising, the presence of organised groups at political gatherings has increasingly triggered accusations between rival camps over alleged mobilisation and plans to disrupt opponents’ meetings.
Super Metro’s clarification places the company at odds with the allegations, with no evidence presented in the claims cited in the dispute to establish that its buses were transporting individuals for political disruption.
