BAMBA, Kilifi County—Bamba residents in Ganze Constituency, Kilifi County, are appealing for urgent intervention over a prolonged water shortage that has left families and livestock struggling to access the vital commodity.

The residents say they have been without water from the local piped supply since October last year, despite making repeated appeals to leaders for assistance.

Mitsemerini Assistant Chief Suleiman Kenga said the situation had worsened due to the dry conditions, with several water sources in the area drying up.

“The drought situation is not good. It is very bad because water has dried up in many areas, while the piped water supply in Mitsemerini has been unavailable since October last year,” Kenga said.

He appealed to humanitarian organisations and well-wishers to intervene by supplying water to affected villages as residents struggle to meet their daily needs.

Kenga also warned that the prolonged water shortage could have an impact on education if the situation continues, as families and children are forced to spend more time searching for water.

Former Mitsangani Ward MCA Daniel Maangi also called on the Kilifi County Government and development partners to intervene and provide the community with adequate and safe water.

Maangi said the few available water sources were already under pressure, with livestock and elephants accessing the same water points.

The residents are now calling for urgent measures to restore the piped water supply and provide alternative sources of water as the dry conditions persist.
