Property developers in Mombasa risk legal action as the county government rolls out a countywide enforcement campaign against construction projects that fail to meet approved building standards and legal requirements.
The operation, which takes effect immediately, is aimed at ongoing developments found to be violating approved building plans or ignoring conditions attached to construction permits. County officials say the move is intended to curb unsafe developments and restore compliance within the construction sector.
In a public notice issued on Friday, County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Urban Planning, Housing and Serikali Mtaani Mohamed Hussein said the county had observed an increase in projects proceeding without adhering to approval conditions despite previous warnings.
Authorities warned that developers whose projects are found to be non-compliant will face enforcement measures, including possible legal proceedings.
The county government said the exercise is necessary to protect public safety, support orderly urban planning and safeguard the environment from the effects of unauthorized developments.
Developers and property owners have been urged to confirm that all required approvals are in place before continuing construction and to ensure that ongoing works fully comply with the conditions issued by the county.
Officials maintain that the crackdown is part of broader efforts to promote safe, sustainable and legally compliant urban growth across Mombasa.
