MOMBASA, County—Nyali parliamentary aspirant Said Abdalla “Saido” has extended financial support to small-scale traders in Kadzandani and Freretown, injecting Sh300,000 into local businesses as he steps up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Abdalla issued cheques totalling Sh300,000 to traders during a voter sensitisation drive in the two wards, saying the support was intended to help them sustain their businesses and cope with the economic pressures affecting households and small enterprises.
The intervention targets traders whose businesses provide daily incomes for families and contribute to the local economy, at a time when rising operating costs and disruptions to international trade continue to affect businesses.
Abdalla linked the support to the need to strengthen the resilience of small traders, saying helping them keep their businesses running would enable them to continue earning a livelihood and supporting their families.
The financial assistance came as the Nyali parliamentary aspirant intensified his voter-registration mobilisation, urging residents to register and participate in the 2027 electoral process.
Abdalla has previously undertaken voter sensitisation activities across Nyali’s five wards, targeting young people and women in efforts he says are aimed at complementing the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s registration drive.
The latest activities bring together two issues increasingly shaping grassroots politics in the constituency — voter participation and the economic challenges facing ordinary residents.
For small-scale traders, access to capital remains critical to keeping businesses operating, meeting household needs and maintaining sources of employment. The Sh300,000 support therefore places economic empowerment alongside voter mobilisation as part of Abdalla’s growing engagement with residents ahead of the 2027 polls.
Nyali is a diverse and largely urban constituency whose economy is driven by businesses ranging from informal traders and small enterprises to tourism, hospitality and other service industries.
Abdalla’s outreach comes as political activity across Mombasa begins to intensify ahead of the 2027 General Election, with aspirants increasingly taking their programmes and messages to ward and grassroots level.
The voter-registration campaign and trader support also place livelihoods among the issues likely to feature in the emerging political conversation in Nyali, where residents continue to grapple with the cost of running businesses and meeting daily household expenses.
