MOMBASA, Kenya—Former Kisauni MP and 2027 Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Ali Menza Mbogo has signalled a possible political realignment after appearing alongside Siaya Governor James Orengo, one of the principals associated with the Linda Mwananchi political movement.
Mbogo shared a photograph of himself with Orengo on Tuesday accompanied by the message, “Mombasa, are you ready? MWANANCHI ALINDWE.” Orengo, in a separate post, appeared to welcome the former Kisauni MP into the movement, saying Mombasa was “locked in” and describing Mbogo as the latest addition to the Linda Mwananchi team at the Coast.
“Hon. Ali Menza Mbogo isn’t letting the ship set sail without him,” Orengo posted, saying the former legislator had joined the team to help build what he termed an “unshakeable stronghold” in Mombasa.
The developments have triggered speculation over Mbogo’s political future as parties and emerging formations begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
However, Mbogo has not publicly announced that he has resigned from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or formally joined Linda Mwananchi, leaving his exact political position unclear.
Mbogo, who served as Kisauni MP from 2017 to 2022, later joined UDA and became part of President William Ruto’s political establishment. He was subsequently appointed chairperson of the LAPSSET Corridor Development Authority Board, a position he continues to hold.
His recent political engagements, however, appear to suggest that he is exploring options ahead of the 2027 contest. In recent weeks, Mbogo has also held meetings with Jubilee Party leaders as political consultations intensify across Mombasa and other parts of the Coast.
His latest appearance with Orengo therefore adds another dimension to the political calculations surrounding the Mombasa gubernatorial race, where several political players are expected to align themselves with emerging national formations as the 2027 election approaches.
For now, whether Mbogo has actually abandoned UDA remains unanswered. His public association with Linda Mwananchi, however, could signal a significant shift if the former Kisauni MP ultimately chooses to formally join the emerging political movement.
