MOMBASA, Kenya—The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) has launched an investigation after a Rubber-Tyred Gantry crane incident at the Port of Mombasa left a crane operator with minor injuries and damaged a container.
The incident occurred on Thursday at about 3:40pm during a container-handling operation at the port.
KPA said the crane operator sustained minor soft-tissue injuries to the legs and was taken to hospital for treatment before being discharged.
The truck tractor operator involved in the operation was not injured.
The Authority said its safety and emergency response teams responded to the scene immediately after the incident as investigations began to establish what led to the damage and injury.
KPA said the safety review will determine whether additional corrective measures are required to strengthen safety standards and prevent similar incidents across port operations.
Rubber-Tyred Gantry cranes are used at the Port of Mombasa to move and stack containers as the facility handles cargo destined for Kenya and other countries in the region.
The Authority has urged the public to rely on verified information as investigations into the incident continue.
