NAIROBI, Kenya—Fresh from securing a record-extending 22nd Kenyan Premier League title, Gor Mahia Football Club has once again cemented its place as the country’s most successful football institution, a legacy that continues to shape Kenyan football both on and off the pitch.

The champions were hosted at State House, Nairobi, where President William Ruto congratulated the club for winning the 2025/26 league title and hailed its contribution to sports development in the country.

The President described Gor Mahia’s success as a product of discipline, consistency and strong management, qualities that have enabled the club to remain a dominant force in Kenyan football for decades.

For many football enthusiasts, however, Gor Mahia’s significance extends far beyond trophies.

Founded in 1968, K’Ogalo has grown into one of East Africa’s most recognisable football brands, boasting one of the largest fan bases in the region and a history that mirrors the evolution of Kenyan football itself.

The club remains the only Kenyan side to have won a continental title after lifting the African Cup Winners’ Cup in 1987.

Over the years, Gor Mahia has served as a platform for some of Kenya’s most celebrated footballers, many of whom used the club as a springboard to professional careers abroad and opportunities with the national team. The club’s consistent competitiveness has helped raise standards within the domestic league while inspiring generations of young players across the country.

Its latest title comes at a time when Kenyan football is seeking to strengthen its presence on the continental stage. Gor Mahia’s qualification for the CAF Champions League presents another opportunity for the club to test itself against Africa’s elite while carrying the hopes of local supporters eager to see Kenyan teams make deeper runs in international competitions.

During the State House reception, President Ruto reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting sports development, announcing that 28 new stadia are expected to be completed within the next year.

The planned facilities form part of broader efforts to improve sporting infrastructure and create more opportunities for young people to nurture their talents.

Sports stakeholders have long argued that improved infrastructure, combined with stronger youth development systems, is critical to unlocking Kenya’s football potential. While the country continues to produce talented players, inadequate facilities and limited investment have often been cited as barriers to sustained success at the highest levels.

As Gor Mahia celebrates another domestic triumph, the club’s journey reflects both the achievements and aspirations of Kenyan football.

Its continued dominance underscores the value of stability, investment and talent development, while its upcoming continental campaign offers a chance to showcase the progress of the local game beyond Kenya’s borders.

For K’Ogalo supporters, the 22nd title is another chapter in a proud history. For Kenyan football, it is a reminder of what sustained excellence can achieve—and of the work still needed to elevate the sport to greater heights.
