Mombasa County Lands, Housing and Urban Planning CECM Mohamed Hussein Amadoh has thrown his support behind Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir’s bid for a second term, citing what he termed the governor’s commitment to improving residents’ welfare.
Amadoh said Nassir’s leadership should be judged by development initiatives and efforts to address residents’ needs rather than political rhetoric, as competition for political influence in Mombasa gathers momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking in Shonda, Shika Adabu Ward, the county official defended the governor’s support for the broad-based government, arguing that the arrangement presented opportunities for Mombasa residents to benefit from national government programmes.
“The Governor loves his people. If you want to know whether someone loves his people, look at everything they do. No matter what he is told or what is said about him, his first priority is the people of Mombasa,” Amadoh said.
He dismissed criticism directed at the broad-based government arrangement, saying the governor was more concerned about the benefits it could bring to the county than political disagreements surrounding it.
“He has been told that the broad-based arrangement is not good, but look at the results it is bringing to our people. He is looking at how the people of Mombasa will benefit,” he added.
Amadoh also took issue with the conduct of some political leaders, accusing them of using abusive language during political engagements and creating an environment that discourages families from attending public meetings.
He argued that political gatherings should provide platforms for discussing development and leadership rather than exposing children and other members of the public to offensive language.
The CECM further defended the county government’s housing agenda, contrasting its approach with the displacement of residents through demolitions, citing the situation in Buxton.
He said the administration was committed to ensuring residents had access to secure housing and legal ownership documents.
“Some people have a lot of money and are billionaires, but when they come in, they demolish people’s houses. People in Buxton have nowhere to live, while this governor is ensuring that residents get safe housing and title deeds,” he said.
Although Amadoh did not name the political leaders he was referring to in his remarks about abusive language, his criticism came amid growing political contestation involving UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar and businessman Suleiman Shahbal.
He maintained that Nassir’s development record and focus on residents’ welfare placed him in a strong position to seek another term.
