NAIROBI, Kenya— Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has topped a Politrack Africa survey on women Kenyans would prefer to see become the country’s first woman Deputy President.

Waiguru received 36 per cent of the responses, followed by former Justice Minister Martha Karua with 27 per cent.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga came third with 15 per cent.

The survey found that 9 per cent of respondents declined to give an answer, while 7 per cent said they were not familiar enough with the candidates to make a choice. Another 6 per cent selected other candidates.

The findings come amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 General Election, including possible running-mate arrangements and alliances as political parties and leaders position themselves for the contest.

Waiguru, Karua and Wanga have all held senior political positions, with their names featuring in discussions around women’s representation in Kenya’s top political offices.

The Politrack figures represent respondents’ stated preferences at the time of the survey and are not a prediction of the eventual outcome of the 2027 General Election.
