NAIROBI, Kenya—Siaya Senator and ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga has been hospitalised in Nairobi, with his family reportedly considering flying him to the United Kingdom for specialised medical treatment.

Sources cited by Kenyan media indicate that the veteran politician is currently receiving treatment in Nairobi, although details about the condition that led to his hospitalisation have not been made public.

Reports also indicate that access to the 83-year-old senator has been restricted, with only close family members reportedly allowed to visit him. Several political leaders who attempted to see him have reportedly been unable to access him.

The latest development has renewed concern about the health of the ODM leader, who has kept a relatively low public profile in recent days.

A close relative is reported to have confirmed that Oburu remains in hospital and is stabilising, while the family weighs the option of seeking specialised treatment in the United Kingdom.

Oburu, the elder brother of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, took over the leadership of ODM following Raila’s death in October 2025 and remains a central figure in the party’s political affairs.

Neither the family nor ODM has publicly disclosed the nature of the senator’s illness or confirmed plans for his transfer to the United Kingdom.

More to follow as further details emerge.
