Governor says unity and cooperation between leaders are key to accelerating development, creating jobs and improving public service delivery.

MOMBASA, Kenya — Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has urged residents to embrace national unity and support the implementation of the government’s 10-Point Agenda, saying the country’s development hinges on cooperation, dialogue and collective responsibility rather than political divisions.

Speaking during a meet-the-people tour of Jomvu Constituency alongside Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya and Jomvu MP Badi Twalib, the Governor called on Kenyans to reject divisive politics and instead focus on initiatives that improve livelihoods and strengthen national cohesion.

He said leaders have a duty to unite citizens and champion development instead of exploiting political differences that undermine progress.

“The future of our country depends on our ability to work together despite our political differences. Leadership should unite people around development, not divide them for political convenience,” Governor Nassir said.

The Governor said the National 10-Point Agenda provides a practical roadmap for addressing the country’s pressing socio-economic challenges, including unemployment, economic empowerment, improved service delivery, accountable leadership and inclusive development.

According to Nassir, the agenda presents an opportunity for both national and county governments to align their efforts in delivering projects that directly improve the lives of ordinary Kenyans.

“When we focus on issues that matter to wananchi—creating jobs, strengthening the economy, improving healthcare, education and public services—we build a stronger and more prosperous nation for everyone,” he said.

He appealed to Mombasa residents to support programmes that foster peace, stability and collaboration, noting that a conducive environment enables governments at all levels to implement development projects efficiently and attract investment.

The Governor further observed that Mombasa stands to benefit significantly from stronger collaboration between county and national government institutions, particularly in infrastructure development, trade, tourism, youth empowerment and investment promotion.

Nassir reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation with the national government and other leaders, saying partnerships remain essential in unlocking more opportunities for residents and accelerating the county’s socio-economic transformation.

“Mombasa has everything to gain from a united Kenya. Our commitment is to work with every willing partner to expand economic opportunities, improve public services and ensure every resident benefits from development regardless of political affiliation,” he added.

The Governor’s remarks come as leaders across the country continue to rally support for the implementation of the National 10-Point Agenda, which seeks to strengthen governance, accelerate economic growth, promote national unity and enhance service delivery through coordinated action between the national and county governments.

During the Jomvu tour, residents also engaged the leaders on key local development priorities, with the Governor reiterating that his administration remains committed to delivering people-centred programmes while fostering partnerships that will spur inclusive and sustainable development across Mombasa County.
