KILIFI, County—Police in Kilifi County have arrested two suspected drug traffickers following an intelligence-led operation that uncovered a sizeable haul of cannabis and equipment believed to have been used in the packaging and distribution of narcotic drugs.

The raid, conducted in Sakina area, was part of an ongoing security operation targeting suspected drug trafficking networks operating within the county.

According to police, officers acted on credible intelligence before raiding the premises, where they arrested the two suspects without incident. Detectives say investigations are continuing to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify any additional individuals who may be linked to the network.

During the operation, officers recovered two half-sacks of cannabis sativa, cannabis seeds, several packages of the drug allegedly prepared for sale, a digital weighing scale, a hammer, cash suspected to be proceeds of the illegal trade and other items seized as exhibits.

Police believe the recovered weighing scale and packaging materials may have been used in the processing and distribution of cannabis to various locations within the county. The exhibits have been retained to support ongoing investigations and any subsequent court proceedings.

The two suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned once investigations are completed and appropriate charges are approved.

The operation forms part of the National Police Service’s broader campaign to curb drug trafficking and disrupt criminal networks involved in the supply of narcotic and psychotropic substances.

Security agencies have expressed concern over the continued circulation of illegal drugs, warning that the trade poses a serious threat to public safety, particularly among young people who remain vulnerable to substance abuse.

Police have appealed to residents to continue sharing information on suspected drug trafficking activities, saying community intelligence remains critical in identifying and dismantling criminal networks. Authorities also assured the public that information provided by members of the community will be handled confidentially.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
