MALINDI, Kenya—A Malindi court has sentenced Justin Karisa Thoya to 30 years in prison after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a seven-year-old boy in Jacaranda, Malindi Sub-County, Kilifi County.
Resident Magistrate Eva Mirriam Adhiambo handed down the sentence after finding that the prosecution had proved its case against Thoya.
The court heard that the offence occurred on June 14, 2025, when the child was herding livestock in Jacaranda.
According to evidence presented during the trial, Thoya asked the boy to help him search for a missing cow in nearby bushes. The child later reported that Thoya had sexually assaulted him and threatened him against disclosing the incident.
Medical evidence presented in court indicated that the child had suffered swelling and pain, while an examination revealed signs of anal penetration.
The court granted Thoya 14 days to appeal against both the conviction and the sentence.
