
MOMBASA, Kenya — A domestic dispute allegedly fueled by suspicions of infidelity turned violent in Likoni, Mombasa County, after a 23-year-old woman reportedly poured boiling tea on her husband, leaving him with serious burn injuries.
The victim, identified as Fred Ouma, 25, suffered burns on the chest and shoulders during the early morning incident at Kiwerera area in Likoni.
According to a police report filed at Likoni Police Station under O.B No. 25/24/05/2026, officers rushed to the scene after receiving the report and established that the victim had already been taken to a nearby dispensary by neighbors for emergency treatment.
Police say the suspect, Sharon Achieng’, was arrested shortly after the incident and booked for aggravated assault as investigations continue.
Authorities indicated that preliminary investigations point to a suspected love triangle and accusations of infidelity as the source of the violent confrontation.
“The motive of the incident is alleged shared love affair,” part of the police report states.
Despite sustaining serious burns, the victim was reported to be in stable condition after receiving first aid and medical attention.
Police have condemned the incident as a criminal act of domestic violence, warning couples against resorting to violence during relationship disagreements.
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court after completion of investigations.
Cases of domestic and gender-based violence continue to raise concern across Kenya, with authorities warning that unresolved relationship disputes are increasingly escalating into physical confrontations.
Human rights groups and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly urged couples facing domestic conflicts to seek counseling and peaceful intervention mechanisms instead of violence.
