KILIFI, Kenya — Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary and Kenya Roads Board Chairperson Aisha Jumwa has announced her resignation from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing what she described as humiliation and a lack of recognition within the party.
Speaking to journalists in Kakuyuni, Kilifi County, Jumwa said she had endured difficult experiences under the leadership of President William Ruto, who is also the party leader, adding that she could no longer continue as a member of UDA.
She said she would soon unveil her next political move and join another political formation ahead of the 2027 General Election, although she declined to disclose which camp she intends to join.
Jumwa appealed to President Ruto to respect her decision and allow her to pursue her political future without intimidation or interference.
“I am asking the President to let me make my own political choices peacefully,” she said.
The former Malindi MP linked her departure to recent calls by leaders aligned with the Broad-Based Government arrangement suggesting that UDA should not field a candidate for the Kilifi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 elections.
She said the proposal had convinced her that she no longer had a political future within the ruling party.
Jumwa maintained that she remains committed to contesting the Kilifi governor’s seat in the 2027 General Election and urged residents of the county to remain calm as she prepares to announce her new political direction.
Her exit marks another significant political shift at the Coast, where political realignments have intensified as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
