A new documentary season is examining the work required to move climate and sustainability ideas beyond pilot projects and into wider use.

The Solutionaries Season 2, produced by TIME Studios in partnership with Project Management Institute (PMI) and Good is the New Cool, follows three teams working on projects in live music, shipping and artificial intelligence.

The series features REVERB, a sustainability organisation working with the music industry; Seabound, a startup developing onboard carbon capture technology for ships; and Amini, an artificial intelligence company focused on data infrastructure in the Global South.

The projects are presented through the people responsible for developing, testing and implementing the solutions, with particular attention to the operational challenges involved in scaling them.

PMI said the series comes as organisations face increasing pressure to deliver sustainable change while maintaining effective operations.

A recent PMI report cited in the announcement found that 59 per cent of organisations are still struggling to fully integrate sustainability at the project and functional levels.

REVERB, founded by environmentalist Lauren Sullivan and musician Adam Gardner, works with artists and their teams to reduce the environmental impact of tours and live events.

Seabound’s technology is designed to attach to ship exhaust systems and capture carbon dioxide and sulphur emissions. The company says it has completed two pilot projects with shipping companies and raised more than $10 million in equity and grant funding.

Amini’s work focuses on sovereign AI infrastructure, with the company seeking to help countries in the Global South retain control of their data and develop local AI capabilities.

The company says its operations currently span roughly a dozen countries. It has also digitised more than 10 million historical and institutional records and trained 15,000 data scientists and developers.

The series is directed by Edward Buckles Jr. and all three Season 2 episodes are available on TIME’s website.
