NAIROBI, Kenya—TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya has launched a new generation of its TotalEnergies Card, introducing mobile and virtual payment options alongside real-time transaction monitoring and enhanced security features.

The company says the new card is intended to give businesses, fleet managers and individual motorists greater control over fuel and other mobility-related transactions.

Among the changes are a mobile application known as Mobility Pay and a virtual card that can be used on phones without internet connectivity. The system also provides SMS and email alerts for transactions and allows users to monitor their accounts and set spending limits through a customer portal.

The card has also introduced a pre-authorisation feature intended to allow customers to control the amount of fuel dispensed at service stations.

TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya Managing Director Thibault Flichy said the changes were aimed at helping businesses improve oversight of fuel expenditure and manage operating costs.

“Businesses today need greater visibility and control over their fuel expenditure than traditional payment methods can provide,” Flichy said.

He said the new system combines digital payments, transaction monitoring and tax-compliant invoicing to support financial and operational management.

The card also uses PINs, RFID vehicle tags and one-time passwords for transactions made through the application and virtual card.

The new generation card will be accepted across the TotalEnergies service station network for fuel and other products and services.

Customers opting for the mobile application and virtual card can use the digital payment options without relying entirely on physical cards, according to the company.

TotalEnergies said customers can apply for the card through its website, while matatu and boda boda operators can apply at TotalEnergies service stations countrywide.

The launch comes more than 25 years after TotalEnergies introduced its card in Kenya, initially as the Bon Voyage Fuel Card.

The company says the card was the first fuel card introduced in Kenya and among the first locally to incorporate chip technology. It has since evolved from a fuel payment card into a broader mobility and payment solution.

TotalEnergies Marketing Kenya has operated in the country since 1955 and provides fuel, energy and fleet management services.
