The Rashid Abdallah Super Cup is set for a larger and more competitive edition this year, with the number of teams rising from 32 to 44 ahead of its kickoff on July 11.

Founder Rashid Abdallah said preparations are complete, including the tournament draw, and expressed confidence that this year’s matches will deliver a higher level of competition from the opening fixtures. The final is scheduled for December 20 at Kwale Stadium.

The growth of the tournament has been marked by wider regional participation, with teams now drawn from Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi and, for the first time, Tana River. The expansion highlights the competition’s increasing reach across the Coast.

Organisers say the long-term vision is to include all coastal counties, including Lamu, in a bid to strengthen unity and create more opportunities for emerging football talent.

A key change this year is the introduction of an Under-25 format, aimed at positioning players within an age bracket that attracts attention from professional scouts and clubs. Abdallah noted that focusing on this group increases chances for players to transition into professional football.

To maintain integrity, organisers have put in place strict verification measures in collaboration with government agencies and educational institutions. Teams found violating age requirements risk immediate disqualification.

Football Kenya Federation officials in the region have welcomed the tournament’s impact. Mombasa chairman Alamin Ahmed Abdallah said several former participants have progressed to top-tier clubs such as Bandari FC and Ulinzi Stars. His Kwale counterpart, Mwakoja Hamisi, added that the competition has improved discipline among teams while also offering referees valuable match experience.

Beyond the pitch, organisers are appealing for broader community and corporate support. Businesses and individuals have been encouraged to contribute through sponsorships or by providing essential services including medical support, water and transport.

Abdallah acknowledged long-time partners such as Best Ten, Dreamline, Lulu ya Jamii and the Rashid Abdallah Foundation for their continued backing, saying the tournament has created a platform for young players to pursue their ambitions through dedication and discipline.
