NAIROBI, Kenya—Detectives have arrested a suspect believed to have been involved in an arson attack that saw a motor vehicle set ablaze at Githurai Roundabout during recent fuel-related demonstrations.

The suspect, identified as Elisha Karanja Gatwa, was apprehended in Ruiru after investigators pursued crucial leads connected to the incident, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The DCI said the suspect is currently being processed as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack and identify other individuals who may have participated in the incident.

Authorities indicated that efforts are underway to track down additional suspects believed to have been involved in the destruction of property during the demonstrations.

In a statement, the DCI reiterated that violence, arson and destruction of property are serious criminal offences and warned that those found responsible would face legal action.

The agency further affirmed its commitment to pursuing all individuals implicated in criminal activities during public protests and ensuring they are brought to justice.

Investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
