NAIROBI, Kenya—Kenya Police FC have confirmed that head coach Nicholas Muyoti and his assistant, John Baraza, have been permitted to pursue CAF A coaching qualifications, dismissing reports that the two tacticians were sacked.

In an official statement, the club said the duo joined Kenya Police FC on the understanding that they would be released to advance their coaching credentials whenever an opportunity arose.

The two coaches, who hold CAF B qualifications, have now activated that arrangement to undertake CAF A coaching classes, with the club confirming that it had consented to their requests.

The announcement reinforces remarks by Kenya Police FC Technical Director Mbarak “Mnyama” Bashatir, who told Citizen Digital that the club had opted to support the coaches’ professional development rather than dismiss them.

“As leaders of Kenya Police FC, we decided to support our two coaches in pursuing CAF A coaching qualifications, which is a great step for our club. Muyoti is a great coach, and we have no grudge against him,” Bashatir said.

The clarification comes after Police FC made a slow start to the 2026/27 FKF Premier League campaign, opening with a 1-1 draw against Migori Youth before losing 2-1 to AFC Leopards.

However, Bashatir insisted that the team’s early-season results had nothing to do with the decision to allow the coaches to pursue further training.

“It is not a matter of the team’s performance this season that has led to this decision. Even last season, we lost the Mozzart Cup and the league championship, but Muyoti was still our head coach. So, this cannot be a case of us sacking Muyoti. They are heading for coaching classes,” he added.

In its statement, the club also pointed to changing coaching requirements in Kenyan football, saying it anticipated that holding CAF A qualifications would soon become mandatory for coaches steering Kenya Premier League teams.

The club’s board and management commended Muyoti and Baraza for their diligence, commitment, professionalism and work ethic, while wishing them well in their educational and coaching journeys.

Kenya Police FC further stated that it would communicate its next coaching arrangements in due course, leaving its immediate technical direction unclear.

Meanwhile, Police FC are preparing to travel to Mombasa on Sunday for a league encounter against Mombasa United at Mbaraki Sports Ground.

Mombasa United will be seeking their first top-flight victory after opening their campaign with defeats to Kakamega Homeboyz and Mara Sugar.

Both sides will be eager to improve their early-season form, but Bashatir maintained that Police FC would be travelling to the Coast in search of maximum points.

“We are ready, and we know we are going to play against a side that is new to the KPL. We know they will try to show their capabilities, but on our side, we will be out to stamp our authority. We will be going for the three points,” he declared.

The Sunday encounter presents both teams with an opportunity to gain valuable points as the 2026/27 campaign gathers momentum.
