As the Sisi Ni Dola Cup moves deeper into the knockout rounds, attention is increasingly shifting to the race for the tournament’s top individual honours.
According to Dola Group Sports Director Hassan Al Maddy Kipapa, Joshua Oyoo and Lemayan Enock currently lead the Golden Boot race with five goals each. He noted that Joshua has the advantage because Fayaz Bakers remain in contention while Lemayan’s side has been eliminated.
Salim Mzara and Green Eagles forward Emmanuel are close behind on four goals, keeping the race wide open.
Kipapa also singled out Nyundo FC goalkeeper Francis Katana, who has recorded four clean sheets, as the leading candidate for the Best Goalkeeper award.
On the MVP award, Kipapa said it was still too early to separate the leading contenders.
“The league is still fresh. We have only just started the quarter-finals and many players are still showing great quality,” he said, mentioning Hamid, Joshua Oyoo, Emmanuel and Green Eagles midfielder Ali among those impressing.
Green Eagles became the first team to reach the semi-finals after beating Likoni United 4-0.
Coach Davies Ikocheli credited his substitutes for changing the game.
“The second-half players were hungry to play and they showed their quality. The semi-final won’t be easy, but we have to keep fighting.”
He also insisted the team has enough depth despite injury concerns.
“We don’t rely on one player. Whoever gets the opportunity has shown they can perform.”
Kipapa congratulated both Green Eagles and Likoni United for their discipline and urged all teams to maintain sportsmanship throughout the remainder of the competition.
The remaining quarter-finals will determine the other three semi-finalists.
